Ultimate Road Trip

are we there yet?

packing the truckpacking the sportrackthe three of us minutes before taking off

So it’s our last night in Timmins before our road trip departure and it’s past midnight. The truck is almost all packed except for the last minute stuff like toothbrushes, pillows, laptops and food. There was alot more to do tonight than we expected I think, at least more than I expected anyways. we’ve been running around town since supper time buying the little stuff I never even would have thought of bringing. thank god for Dan and Darce or I would have left for a while without any toilet paper, lighter for the bbq and other little small but important stuff. We just got back from buck-or-two and Walmart to get some containers to organize the truck, a deck of cards for when we’re bored, some propane tanks for our bbq, a note pad, some dish soap, etc. We also did some groceries and went to the police station tonight, so I think we’re almost all set. We seem pretty organized and I think we’ve planned everything and are ready if anything goes wrong. We’re planning on leaving at 7am tomorrow morning. Thank god Darce is driving cause I’ll prolly still be half asleep by the time we pull out of the drive-way. Who am I kidding, I’ll prolly be sleeping when we pull into Thunder Bay. As I mentioned, our first stop is Thunder Bay where we’ll be camping for two nights. While we’re there we’re gonna go hiking and camping with our buddy J-f who goes to school there and we’re also gonna run the Terry Fox run.

So where are we going and what are we doing. Well we plan on road tripping to Calgary first. It’s gonna take us 8 days to get there because we’re stopping in Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton and Drumheller before getting there, and camping for two nights in each city. We’ve got between one and four activities planned for each city and those include visiting and downhill biking at the Canadian Olympic Park and taking a brewery tour in Calgary, going swimming in the Edmonton mall, visiting the Corner Gas set near Regina, visiting some museums and going to a corn maze in Winnipeg and hiking and running the Terry Fox run in Thunder Bay and much more. We’re planning on staying in Calgary till October at Dan and Darce’s cousin’s place. Then once October hits, we hit the mountains and resorts all over Alberta and British Columbia while camping in search of a job on a ski resort. We’ve already applied to a dozen resorts online and we’ll be attending job fairs throughout Cctober as well. If we get bored driving around from resort to resort in Canada and if it get’s too cold to camp out, then we might take a week or two to go to California or something. On October 24th, we get to move into our staff housing apartment at Whistler-Blackcomb where we’ll be staying till our interviews on the 6th and 7th of November. If we end up getting hired at Whistler-Blackcomb, then we get to stay in our apartment, and if we don’t get a job, they kick us out and we’ll continue road tripping and camping in search of a job. So that’s about it. Ski hills out west stay open till late april to mid may, so we prolly won’t be back in Ontario till then.

What we’re bringing… Well Darce bought a 1994 Blazer this summer so we’ll be road tripping with that. We also bought a SportRack to put on the roof for more storage space. In the SportRack we’ve got all the camping stuff. In the back of the truck we’ve got our personal stuff like clothes and laptops and on the one side of the back seat we’ve got our cooler and other stuff. We’ll be shipping our skiis, skiing gear and winter clothes on the bus cause we have no room in the truck to bring them.

We’ve also got some cool stuff. We modified the truck a bit like adding a little laptop shelf in the front and some dressers in the back, Darce got a GPS, Dan and Darce’s older brother Paul hooked us up with an online phone so we can get free long distance and a camera to put on our dash board that takes a picture every 30 seconds. We’ll have that camera on the whole road trip so when you watch it you can see the scenery and the roads from Timmins to Calgary in like a 15 minute clip. We’ve got this website to keep people updated on what we’ve been doing and show pictures and video clips. Dan got a am/fm transmitter so we can listen to the music from our laptops through the car speakers and he also got some power inverters so we can charge our laptops, cameras and stuff in the truck. Darce also got a video camera.

Well, I gotta go help pack our winter stuff and make our lunches for tomorrow, so i’ll let you guys go.

I dunno how often I’ll be blogging on here cause I dunno where we’ll be able to get internet signals, when I’ll find the time or if I’ll even remember as this is all new to me, but i’ll try my best. They prolly won’t be as long as this first one, but i’ll try to make them more entertaining by adding funny stories and pictures, etc. Hopefully the stuff we do will be more interesting than a packing list and an itinerary.

Nick
